Whiplash can be mild to moderate injury sustained as a result of sudden acceleration-deceleration movements and is considered the most common outcome from motor vehicle accidents. The term Whiplash Associated Disorders often used with Whiplash but whiplash is the mechanism of injury not the presence of symptoms as pain, muscle spasm, stiffness, dizziness, loss of range of motion and headaches. Some people with WAD can experience blurred vision, ringing in the ears or tinnitus, memory problems and trouble sleeping. In severe and chronic cases, depression, anxiety, anger and PTSD can occur. Chronic WAD usually persists for three months or longer and divided into four grades. After automobile accident, it is important to rule out broken bones or other injuries that can worsen symptoms. A whiplash injury does not show on the imaging tests. Early intervention recommends rest and pain relief.
